Re: French Colonialism in Algiers

De Gaulle told an advisor: "If we integrate them, if all the Arabs and the Berbers of Algeria were considered French, how could they be prevented from settling in France, where the living standard is so much higher? My village would no longer be called Colombey-les-Deux-Églises but Colombey-les-Deux-Mosquées".

Guess which side De Gaulle was on during WW2?

Charles André Joseph Marie de Gaulle [...] was a French army officer and statesman who led Free France against Nazi Germany in World War II

On a side note, I think Colombey-les-Deux-Églises shouldn't even be called Colombey-les-Deux-Mosquées in the future, though this would of course be an improvement over the status quo. It should get an altogether Arab/Berber name.
