Canadians uninterested in King Charles’ coronation, British monarchy, survey suggests

King Charles III took centre stage for his first Commonwealth Day as monarch, with this year's theme being "forging a sustainable and peaceful common future". As Crystal Goomansingh reports, while diversity and culture played a prominent role in the annual service, critics say the realities of the Commonwealth's colonial history can't be ignored.

New polling results suggest Canadians are largely indifferent to King Charles, and more than half believe his May 6 coronation is the right time for the country to reconsider its ties with the monarchy.

Only 12 per cent of respondents said it was good news that Charles is now King, compared to 14 per cent who said it was bad news and 67 per cent who were indifferent.

Only 13 per cent of those surveyed said they felt a personal attachment to the monarchy, compared with 81 per cent who didn’t.

Well, I don't think Wilson is a "libertarian", nor is Harry for that matter, so I'm not sure what your point is?

I also do not see Wilson being anti-British monarchy because it was a colonial empire? I doubt Wilson, as many other British people, see the British monarchy as a world oppressor...

If the libertarians are really against British monarchy and colonialism, the British's multinational corporation's economic oppression on the "Third World" nations will be end today. Have you realize that? Have you realize that western colonialism today are not ended, but only shape-shifting?

Libertarianism are part of classical-liberalism which promoting maximum liberty and advocacy for national's policy based on majority's will and interest, including gaining more national's wealth based on any way they can. Because justice and equity for them is not always true, if anyone enforce that thing, they will call us "bias" and oppressing people's choice which different from us. That's my thought on the relevance of British royal family including Harry to the libertarianism.

Libertarianism not promoting anti-colonialism, but personal liberty. And it forbid us to forcing them to follow what is correct and wrong according to our standard. Including forcing them to obey our definition of "justice" and so-called "equity"

David Hume are the first founder of classical liberalism, he was a British philosopher

The public perception of England is way too positive considering these oppressors are the #1 colonizers. You colonized fool's think the English are good people just because there polite? You fools are so enamoured when they extend they're hand out to you with a smile on there face that you don't see the dagger there hiding behind there back, ready to stab and loot you blind at the right opportunity.

The supremacy of the British "gentlemen" is over, I completely see thru you fools. Now prepare to taste the punishment.

Kathryn Hughes wrote in The Guardian of Wilson's biography of Queen Victoria, Victoria: A Life, "Subtle, thoughtful ... a shimmering and rather wonderful biography."[12] Daisy Goodwin in The Sunday Times review wrote, "This won't be the last biography of Victoria but it is certainly the most interesting and original in a long time."[13]

Wilson's Hitler: A Short Biography was criticised by the historian Richard J. Evans in a review in the New Statesman for factual inaccuracies and lack of original research and analysis, as well as personal biases.[14] In his review of The Laird of Abbotsford for Cencrastus, David McKie observed that "Concluding with Chesterton that the superficial impression of the world is by far the deepest, Wilson underpins his notions of Scott with the same paradoxical hope."[15]

I'm reminded of my favorite moon bear story: (which I appreciate even if it were proven false: https://www.animalsasia.org/intl/media/news/news-archive/suicide-bear-story-most-likely-false-but-bear-bile-farming-very-real.html)

END THE PAIN Tortured mama bear ‘strangled cub to death & then killed herself by running into a wall’ after life of hell in bile farm
Quote
AN ABUSED mama bear strangled her cub to death before running into a wall to kill herself in a desperate bid to avoid a life of torture, it is claimed.

The tortured animals were living in captivity on a farm in a remote part of north-west China, painfully having their gall bladders milked daily for bile - which is used in traditional Chinese medicine.
Bears are often kept in squalid conditions on bile farms in China (STOCK)

It's reported the mother and her cub were being kept in tiny cages - branded "crush cages" due to their size and how they stop the creatures from moving about.

Hearing her cub in distress as a worker went to puncture its stomach, the mother reportedly broke free from her cage.

She then rushed over and hugged the cub until she strangled it to death, before running at a wall head-first to kill herself...

If true, the moon bear understands more about freedom and oppression than all human-beings!

I don't think Wilson or Harry are vegans either? Which circles back to this question asked by another member:
Quote
What does it say that the anti racist vegan Markle has chosen to reproduce with the racist hunter Harry?

Then we can circle back to Hitler again to truly close out this comment:

Harry’s book is 'like reading Mein Kampf’ | A.N. Wilson

Freedom mean defeat the oppressor, not adapt and live peacefully with them. Such thing properly called as "moderation". Only liberty which always call for "moderation". If we don't want to give pity to anyone, then don't trust everyone. This mindset proper for libertarians who always not believe everything other than their self-interest.

Harry’s book is 'like reading Mein Kampf’ | A.N. Wilson
Quote
“It is like reading Mein Kampf, in that Hitler thinks he's a great hero and you put the book down with absolute disgust. And you do put this book down with total disgust.”

Readers finish Harry’s book with “disgust”, journalist and author A.N. Wilson tells #TimesRadio.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pC11TiuPfd8

This is almost so silly it doesn't even warrant a response. Having listened to the audio book version of Mein Kampf from front to back at the least three times, I can tell you Wilson has not even listened to a version of it once himself, most likely he has not read it either.

Harry acts like he is the ONLY person that has had bad things happen in his life...a life of unimaginable WEALTH & PRIVILEGE. I will not spend any of my HARD EARNED money on his eternal pity party. Poor chap! People in the UK can't afford heat or food, but let's all cry for Harry & Meg, alone in their CA mansion.

Mein Kampf quote:
Quote
I saw all this going on in hundreds of cases. At first, I was disgusted or outraged. I later came to realize the tragedy of this suffering and to understand its deeper causes. They were the unhappy victims of evil circumstances. The housing conditions of those days were worse. The housing situation of the Viennese laborer was absolutely frightful. I shudder now when I think of those wretched caverns some lived in, of the houses where journeymen of a common trade lived together, and mass dormitories which were sinister pictures of refuse, filled with disgusting filth and worse.

It was bound to happen. The flood of slaves set loose from these squalid caves pours down upon the rest of the world, upon its thoughtless fellow men! It is bound to happen again. This other world lets things drift without thinking about the consequences. It has lost its instinct to tell it that sooner or later, Fate will move toward retribution unless mankind placates destiny before time runs out.

I am indeed thankful to a Providence for sending me to that school of hard knocks in the city. There, I could not sabotage what I did not like. I had to quickly grow up. If I wanted to avoid falling into despair because of the people who surrounded me, I had to learn the distinctions between their outer character and inner life and the circumstances that created their lives.

Only through this understanding could I bear it all without giving up to despair. It was no longer human beings who rose before me out of unhappiness and misery, out of squalor and physical degradation, but the sad products of sad laws. At the same time, my own fight for life, which was no easier than theirs, preserved me from becoming emotionally involved with the products of this ill society and allowed me to remain objective. No, emotional sentimentality will not help understanding here. Even then I saw that only a two-fold path could lead to the improvement of such conditions.

I experienced a deep feeling of social responsibility to establish a better system for our development. I knew it would require brutal determination to destroy this human outgrowth which had no chance of being preserved and corrected. Nature does not focus on preserving what exists; nature concentrates on breeding a new generation to perpetuate the species. It is almost impossible for man to improve those bad things that exist in society, but it is much easier to create healthier paths from the start.

Even during my struggle for existence in Vienna, I realized the task of improving social elements could never be a frivolous welfare scheme. They are ridiculous and useless. Instead, we must overcome the fundamental weaknesses in the organization of our economic and cultural life. The holes in the system are bound to lead to the perversion of individuals, or at least they are capable of doing so. — Adolf Hitler, Mein Kampf, pg. 22-23

No wonder this world is in such a state when we have people like Wilson and Harry running around flapping their lips:

Hitler truly was prophetic at times, was he not?

Quote
The King danced with Anne Frank’s step-sister and praised the “wonderful” work of a Jewish charity during a visit on Friday.

He toured the JW3 Community Centre in Finchley Road, north London, to learn about its work as the Jewish community prepares to start celebrating Chanukah this weekend.

The King was greeted by Roxane Zand, the Deputy Lieutenant for Camden, and was shown various activities in the centre by Raymond Simonson, its chief executive.
...
As part of the visit, the King took part in the centre’s pre-Chanukah reception for Holocaust survivors, meeting them and their families as well as taking part in a dance to traditional Jewish live music with them.

...
One of the Holocaust survivors, 95-year-old Helen Aronson, said: “Today I had two kisses on both cheeks! I told him I’m not washing my face.

“It’s extra special for a King to take time and come to the Jewish community and speak to everyone and shake hands with everyone, it’s amazing really. I won’t forget this until the day I die, an experience like that, to be kissed by the King.”
...
The King then unveiled a mini-plaque commemorating his visit to JW3 and was presented with a Chanukah Menorah, made by the artist Michael Aram, as a gift.

this is what happens when you do not eliminate colonialist bloodlines:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heinrich_Reuss

Quote
He was born in Büdingen on 4 December 1951 to Prince Heinrich I Reuss of Köstritz (1910–1982) and Duchess Woizlawa Feodora of Mecklenburg (1918–2019), the only child of the German colonial politician Duke Adolf Friedrich of Mecklenburg.[1][2]

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Duke_Adolf_Friedrich_of_Mecklenburg

Quote
Born in Schwerin, Adolf Friedrich was the third child of Frederick Francis II, Grand Duke of Mecklenburg-Schwerin (1823–1883), and his third wife Princess Marie of Schwarzburg-Rudolstadt. His younger brother was Prince Hendrik of the Netherlands, prince consort to the Dutch Queen Wilhelmina.
...
Explorer of Africa

From 1907 to 1908, Adolf Friedrich led a scientific research expedition in the region of the Central African Graben and traversed Africa from east to west. In 1908, he was awarded the Eduard Vogel Medal of the Association of Geography of Leipzig. The insects from his expeditions and residence in Togo are in the Museum für Naturkunde in Berlin and in the Senckenberg Museum

From 1910 to 1911, he led an expedition to Lake Chad and the northern rivers of the Congo to the Nile in current Sudan. Adolf Friedrich and his companions explored the then little-known primeval forest region of the Congo tributaries and the basin of Lake Chad. Individual groups extended their explorations to the Bahr el Ghazal near the upper Nile, while others travelled to south Cameroon and the islands of the Gulf of Guinea. Vom Kongo zum Niger und Nil ("From the Congo to the Niger and the Nile"), a two-volume work based on the 1910–1911 expeditions, has an excellent reputation today for its detail and images.

From 1912 to 1914, Adolf Friedrich was the last governor of Togoland in German West Africa; he was invited for the official celebration of the independence of Togo in 1960. After World War I, he served as the vice-president of the privately chartered German Colonial Society for Southwest Africa; his brother Johann Albrecht was president from 1895 to 1920.

Quote
The colony was established towards the end of the period of European colonisation in Africa generally known as the "Scramble for Africa". Two separate protectorates were established in 1884. In February 1884, the chiefs of the town of Aného were kidnapped by German soldiers and forced to sign a treaty of protection.[3]
