Some were quick to blame terrorism, and Canada, after fatal Rainbow Bridge border explosion

Quote

While a vehicle explosion at a busy border crossing on the eve of U.S. Thanksgiving was enough to stir suspicion in even the most temperate types, some were notably quick to jump to conclusions that terror, and even Canada, were to blame.

U.S. Representative Mike Kelly not only rashly concluded that it was indeed a terror attack, but also that the ‘terrorists’ entered the U.S. through Canada.

It was later confirmed that the driver of the ill-fated vehicle was from Western New York and was instead apparently trying to enter Canada from the U.S. when for reasons still unknown he raced to a fiery death, taking his passenger with him.

No evidence of explosives were found at the scene after an FBI probe, and New York State Governor, Kathy Hochul, said “there is no sign of terrorist activity with respect to this crash.”

But Kelly was among a trove of Republican politicians who weighed in on the event before those findings were made public, with many using it as an attempt to critique what they consider U.S. President Joe Biden’s soft take on border security issues.

“For months, I’ve warned about the surge of suspected terrorists entering through our Northern border,” Kelly posted on X, formerly known as Twitter.

Senator Ted Cruz definitively declared that “this confirms our worst fear: the explosion at Rainbow Bridge was a terrorist attack.”

Arizona Rep. Andy Biggs wasn’t shy about politicizing the fatal crash.

“Our borders are under attack and the Biden Administration continues to sit on its hands,” he wrote.

U.S. media personality Ian Haworth went as far as to declare “We are at war” after the incident.
Haworth later deleted his tweet and owned up to being part of spreading misinformation after learning that no evidence of a terror attack was found.

But it wasn’t just pundits and politicians south of the border who were criticized for prematurely labelling the incident terror-related.
Federal Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre spoke about the incident in the House of Commons when he asked Prime Minister Justin Trudeau for an update.

“We’ve just heard media reports of a terrorist attack, an explosion at the Niagara crossing of the Canada-U.S. border …. it is the principal responsibility of government to protect the people, can the Prime Minister give us an update on what he knows and what action plan he will immediately implement to bring home security for our people?”

Following Rainbow Bridge crash, Niagara police chief warns about spread of misinformation

Quote

Following this week's crash on the Rainbow Bridge — which closed Niagara border crossings and prompted questions about public safety — Niagara Region's police chief is warning the community about the spread of misinformation.

"We saw an immense amount of misinformation and speculation on both mainstream and social media platforms, which created significant and unnecessary anxiety in the community," said Niagara police chief Bryan MacCulloch.

"I think what we saw on Wednesday was really the speed at which misinformation [spreads] in today's environment of social media and how quickly it can spiral," MacCulloch told CBC Hamilton.

He did not cite any specific sources of misinformation, but said there were claims of an attack, that the car had come from Canada and that the vehicle was filled with explosives.

"None of that information was accurate. None of it was corroborated. Yet that didn't stop individuals, and in some cases media outlets, from putting that information out," he said.

When asked what he would say to someone who doesn't trust police, MacCulloch said "it's unfortunate that we have such a divisive society right now," and that in Niagara, police work to be accurate.

'Absolutely it was racially motivated' says RBC bank client after police called to investigate transaction

Quote

An Ottawa woman plans to file a human rights complaint against the Royal Bank of Canada after a routine trip to her branch to pick-up her credit card resulted in what she calls a dehumanizing and racist experience to prove her identity to police.

Barry says the teller took the identification, briefly walked away and returned, asking if she had another piece of ID. Barry then provided her new, unused passport, which had been recently renewed.

"I showed her the passport she said yeah one second she went to the back and spoke to the manager and she came back and said can I actually have your health card too," says Barry. "Then she came back and said Mrs. Barry we will need you to sign some paperwork before getting your credit card back, just give us some time we're working on the papers and it shouldn't be too long. At that point I'm like, yeah, sure, do your thing, I'm still waiting."

But after nearly an hour of waiting, it was then Barry says she saw the bank manager outside, handing her documents to three police officers.

"I started filming. At that point, it was just emotions," says Barry, who posted the interaction on TikTok. "I was very scared and I was very shocked. I never ever had an issue with the law before. My only reaction at that time was to just cry and feel the injustice. The police officers asked me to stay outside until they finished the investigation and that process took over an hour."

"This is a typical case of banking while black," says Ketcia Peters, president of The Red Coalition. "Not only that she [Barry] was treated in a way that was insensitive, but it was also shameful. She had to pretty much take a walk of shame while people in the bank were looking at her as a person that was guilty when she wasn't."

Red Coalition, which advocates to eliminate the practice of racial profiling and systemic racism, will file a complaint against Royal Bank of Canada with the Human Rights Commission on behalf of Barry, and Peters says the organization will accompany her through the entire process.

"It's significant to take proper action in order to make them accountable for the way they treat some of their clients," says Peters. "And for awareness for them [RBC] to understand that they have a policy that's centric to not discriminating against certain clients and to also be able for them to be sensitive towards what it means for the Black community, for a member of the Black community to be exposed to an experience like that. It is traumatic it is an experience we go through every day."

Barry says she wants the bank to understand that this incident cannot be brushed aside.

"The people that treated me like I was a criminal that I was a customer for 15 years did not even have the decency to ask me one simple question, which could have resolved this," says Barry. "I want them to be accountable for their actions … I know deeply how I felt that day and want to bring justice to what happened to me and to many, many other victims."

‘Because I Don’t Want You In My Car’: White Uber Driver Calls Black Woman the N-Word, Allegedly Tries to Hit Her with Vehicle
...
“I will call the police. It’s OK,” the driver, who appears to be white, responded. “Because I don’t want you in my car.”

Literally.....

Quote
Nicole asks the driver the reasoning behind his request.

“Because I asked you to turn the AC down,” she said.

“That’s part of the reason,” the driver responded.

I will side with the person who wants to reduce air conditioner use over the one who does not.

According to the video, the driver calls her the N-word and doubles down on his statement.

“Because I’m a what?” Nicole said.

“You heard me,” the driver said, looking back at her. “Because you’re acting like one.”

The driver is acting like a member of the gene pool which invented air conditioning.

It’s unclear what happened before and after the incident. In the video’s caption, the influencer alleges that the video cut off because the driver immediately put the car in reverse while getting her belongings out of the vehicle, adding that he “hit” her “while the car door was open.”

It's OK for words to be "white"?

https://www.yahoo.com/news/want-teacher-removed-outraged-connecticut-132049222.html

A Connecticut mother alleges that her Black son was subjected to racially offensive language from his teacher during class, and now the West Hartford School District is investigating the claims just one week into the new school year.

Che’La’Mora Hardy, the child’s mother, not only claims that the teacher’s use of the N-word deeply offended her 13-year-old son but also believes that he was unfairly singled out in front of his peers. She feels her son is no longer safe.
...
Hardy’s son said, “We don’t curse, we don’t use profanity.”

His teacher allegedly responded, “Even if you don’t curse, you guys use other types of words that you shouldn’t be using.”

When the teen asked what she meant, the teacher said the N-word.
...
“She just automatically assumed because he’s a Black kid, that’s the word that he uses. You don’t get to racially profile my kid like that and then actually use the word,” said Hardy.
