For the first time, autism is being diagnosed more frequently in Black and Hispanic children than in white kids in the U.S., the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said Thursday.

Among all U.S. 8-year-olds, 1 in 36 had autism in 2020, the CDC estimated. That's up from 1 in 44 two years earlier.

But the rate rose faster for children of colour than for white kids. The new estimates suggest that about 3% of Black, Hispanic and Asian or Pacific Islander children have an autism diagnosis, compared with about 2% of white kids.

That's a contrast to the past, when autism was most commonly diagnosed in white kids -- usually in middle- or upper-income families with the means to go to autism specialists. As recently as 2010, white kids were deemed 30% more likely to be diagnosed with autism than Black children and 50% more likely than Hispanic children.

Experts attributed the change to improved screening and autism services for all kids, and to increased awareness and advocacy for Black and Hispanic families.

Still, it's not clear that Black and Hispanic children with autism are being helped as much as their white counterparts. A study published in January found that found Black and Hispanic kids had less access to autism services than white children during the 2017-2018 academic year.

Autism is a developmental disability caused by differences in the brain. There are many possible symptoms, many of which overlap with other diagnoses. They can include delays in language and learning, social and emotional withdrawal, and an unusual need for routine. Scientists believe genetics can play a factor, but there is no known biological reason why it would be more common in one racial or ethnic group than another.

The overall autism rate has been rising for decades and it remains far more common among boys than girls. But the latest study also found, for the first time, that more than 1% of 8-year-old girls had been diagnosed with it.

Judge praises judo instructor who resisted arrest while flouting lockdown rules

A judge praised a judo instructor’s “excellent” plea when he represented himself in court after fighting two police officers who tried to arrest him for flouting lockdown rules.

Daniel Carr, 37, threw one officer to the ground before striking another on the wrist who was about to incapacitate him with Pava spray.

They both attended hospital and had to take some days off work, the court heard.

The incident occurred in February 2021, when Covid restrictions in place at the time meant it was illegal to organise or attend gatherings and meetings with anyone outside your household or support bubble.

Prosecutor Craig MacGregor said Carr had already received a “cease and desist” letter from police when they saw the event on social media, as well as a directive from Rochdale Borough Council under the health protection regulations, telling him not to protest.

The prosecutor added: “He had already been arrested previously and told to go home and there is an element of the, 'I won't have anyone tell me what to do' mentality.”

Mr MacGregor said: “It got to the stage where PC Mehmood decided he had to arrest the defendant but he was thrown to the floor twice.

Sentencing, Judge Angela Nield told Carr he had delivered an “excellent speech in mitigation” and said he had expressed himself in "a careful and impressive manner”.

She also made no order for compensation for the two PCs.

House Sergeant-at-Arms William Walker, who led the D.C. National Guard during the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol attack, said law enforcement would have responded differently if the rioters had been Black.

“I’m African American. Child of the Sixties. I think it would have been a vastly different response if those were African Americans trying to breach the Capitol,” Walker told the House Jan. 6 panel in April, according to a transcript released this week.

The House panel as part of its investigation examined why it took hours for the Pentagon to eventually send the National Guard to the Capitol as the calamity unfolded.

Walker indicated he did not receive a call from the Defense secretary or secretary of the army as rioters began breaching the Capitol, drawing a comparison to the summer of 2020, when Walker said Pentagon officials “constantly” called him to discuss the racial justice protests that unfolded following the killing of George Floyd.

The pope's voice began to tremble as he mentioned the Ukrainians and he had to stop, unable to speak, for about 30 seconds. When he resumed the prayer, his voice was cracking.

One if by Land, Two if by Sea, considered one of the most romantic restaurants in the world, is now under fire after a TikTok user accused the establishment of racially discriminating "against non-white people — particularly Asians."

TikTok user Annie (@rokug4n) called out One if by Land, Two if by Sea in a recent post. She says in her video that she and her boyfriend recently had a date at the restaurant and were seated on the second floor, or mezzanine. During their meal, she noticed that most of the people around them were purportedly Asian.

“I'm going to preface this by saying, I have no issue dining with other Asian people, other Chinese people, I don’t care. What I do care about, and have an issue with, is people of color being separated from white people by white people in higher-end establishments,” she says.

Annie then highlights the difference in ambiance between that of the first floor and that of the mezzanine, pointing out that the first floor, where the white diners are purportedly usually seated, has chandeliers, high ceilings, huge windows, mosaics and plenty of natural lighting. She claims that the second floor, which has two small windows, is not as well lit. It also does not have a piano and a bar.

“The unfortunate truth is that racial discrimination in higher-end spaces is not a new phenomenon,” she says. “What is unfortunate is that One if by Land, Two if by Sea has been racially discriminatory for so long.”

Annie also points out that “so many Asian foodies are paying hundreds of dollars to this restaurant and getting racially discriminated against.”

As a white guy living in China, managers love to seat me by a window so that passersby will think that the restaurant is high-class and high quality

whit folks are most luckiest in non whit places.  They are looked upon as gods , beauty in itself and even get random invites for ads and posters so companies can show off their products are good with westerners who value beauty and quality.  now in a white country i have to beg to get my kid photographed in a community or school event. even if schools have 20-30% smart ass as.an kids , its the whit kids who get showcased as though they are high quality humans ..
