South Africa has announced that it will hold 10-day joint maritime drills with Russia and China in February. The maritime exercise will take place from February 17 to 27, off the port city of Durban and Richards Bay. Over 350 South African army personnel will take part in the drills alongside their Russian and Chinese counterparts. The US, which has maintained a strategic partnership with South Africa for years, has expressed concern over the move. The drills also coincide with the first anniversary of Russia’s brutal invasion of Ukraine that started on February 24 last year. Is South Africa's "neutrality" fading away?

BEIJING (AP) — China on Monday lashed out at Washington over its withdrawal from the “Open Skies Treaty” with Russia, saying the move undermined military trust and transparency and imperiled future attempts at arms control.

The treaty, to which China is not a signatory, had allowed each country overflight rights to inspect military facilities.

That leaves only one arms-control pact still in force between the former Cold War foes, the New START treaty, which limits the number of nuclear warheads each may have. That treaty will expire in February and the Trump administration had said it wasn’t interested in extending it unless China also joined, something Beijing says it will not do...

The US has intelligence that the Chinese government is considering providing Russia with drones and ammunition for use in the war, three sources familiar with the intelligence told CNN.
It does not appear that Beijing has made a final decision yet, the sources said, as negotiations between Russia and China about the price and scope of the equipment are ongoing.

Since Russia invaded Ukraine I've always thought it was a great opportunity for China to overtake valuable lands to their north.

Russia does still have nuclear weapons and an official doctrine to use them if the territorial integrity of the nation is threatened. And I am sure Soviet planners during the cold war did take into consideration that the Chinese border could be threatened as well.

The rewards would be huge, but the gamble is unpredictable.

Where specifically? Like the Japanese islands occupied by Russia?

You think anyone can come into russian territory and do what they want lol? First of all its an enourmosly powerfull country with thousands of equipment facilities all over the country that basically print weapons. No other country has the capability to produce as much as russians at a given time frame. Because soviet union was just overwhelming in that regard and all this factories are in buisness till now. So whoever comes will face a really powerful conventional army and specially in defence russia will be alot harder to break. Lastly they have the most powerful nuclear arsenal in the world that can strike anywhere in the world from Sea, ground and air. Just because Russia does flatten Ukraine does not mean they cant. Its not the objective. However in all out war, dont make any mistake russia will unleash the most powerful weapons in their arsenal like Yars, bulava, kinzhal, sarmat, poseidon to name a few and completely decimate any invading force and obliterate any country invading Russia. So stop acting that any country including china can walk in and do whatever they want. Russia can literally within an hour erase all countries from face of earth.

Republican lawmakers are tearing into U.S. Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm after she held up China as a model for the United States to emulate on climate change.

At the annual SXSW conference in Austin, Texas, on Friday, Granholm praised China's efforts to tackle climate change, saying the communist country "has been very sensitive, and has actually invested a lot in their solutions, to achieve their goals."

"We're hopeful that, you know, we can all learn from what China is doing," Granholm said.

Perhaps some agreement between China and the United States could be made that if China refrains from visits to Russia we could refrain from visits to Taiwan

The only country with a large enough population to take Russia is China.

What is better than retaking Siberia and harvesting its’ resources? Owning the people that harvest those resources and then sell you those resources at below harvesting cost.

China and India are milking Russia for all it is worth. In some near future China might try a land purchase in Siberia. You know how France and Russia had to sell territory to the US in the 19th century to keep fighting elsewhere. I am sure China is putting together an offer for water and oil rich areas in Siberia. An offer that Russia cannot refuse.
