I like this pitching, as it implies the US wants China to be on the side of the good guys when history is written. Whereas if the US were truly hostile to China, it would try to bait China into irrecoverably tarnishing its own reputation by standing with Russia. Hopefully China can understand from this that US leftists are basically well-meaning towards China.

This is the attitude that, in the long-term, will lead to everyone despising China. Fence-sitting is inherently dishonourable. So long as China does not choose sides, both sides are in effect forced to be on guard against China (which by not yet having already chosen a side it is reserving a chance for itself to do so at any unspecified time in the future), and both sides will understandably resent having to be on perpetual guard against China. The whole point of choosing a side and deliberately making yourself as hated as possible by your chosen enemy is to give yourself no possible way of going back. Only then can your chosen ally feel assured that they can fully trust you.



Then again, I sense that if China were to choose a side right now, it is more likely to choose the wrong side (ie. Russia), so maybe we are lucky that it is fence-sitting for now. We should use this time to remind China that Russia is the only Western colonial power which hasn't yet returned the territory it stole from China:

If China were to take back Outer Manchura right now, do you really think Russia, already embroiled in Ukraine, would dare to open up a second front of war? Most importantly, this would give the US an opening to support China's territorial claim. All of a sudden, America and China would be allies against Russia! And with the EU also against Russia right now (in contrast to Dugin's expectations of most of the EU siding with Russia in future), Russia would suddenly find itself in the weakest position it has ever been in!

I support more left-leaning commentary along the lines of Scarborough's. At least he is searching for divergences in thinking between China and Russia, which is better than presenting the two in presumed perfect unison as many other False Left pundits tend to. This way, listeners opposed to Russia's invasion can find common ground with China, instead of thinking: "If I am hostile to Russia, I must be hostile to China also because Xi probably privately encouraged Putin to invade."

In the same way, it would be good to also hear from US media about things China is doing that might be upsetting Russia's plans.

According to BSs and PCs, China and Russia belong in the same camp of "Eurasia", while Dugin's Eurasianism explicitly advocates viewing China as an enemy.

If only China would explicitly and openly state that it wants all of it's former territory back that was wrongfully stolen from it during the colonial era. This obviously will not happen with it's current posturing though....
