It's OK for commencement speeches to be "white"?
As I always say, a sincere apology would include cutting off his own tongue. He has not done this, therefore he has not apologized.
CANCEL PURDUE UNIVERSITY!
Woke comments:
His apology is pure BS!!! As a college chancellor to call it off the cuff is just egregiously wrong & truly reflects his true attitudes.
that so-called 'apology' hit every marker for a NON-apology.
it was an "unplanned response to another speaker"-- i.e. this was a private thing between that speaker and me and you wouldn't understand/you have misunderstood.
"my words have caused confusion, pain, and anger"-- (1) my words, not me.
(2) confusion as in you don't understand (again), your fault, your problem.
(3) anger as in your fault, your problem for being incapable of understanding.
(4) pain as in i'm sorry you feel that way-- i.e. your fault, your problem.
"we are all human, i made a mistake"-- i.e. i'm being persecuted here.
"i assure you i did not intend to be hurtful..."-- i.e. i'm such a racist that i thought what i said was all in good fun.
"my comments do not reflect my personal values."-- this could mean two things. either
racist words randomly spew forth from my mouth unbidden, or
i was forced to say what i'm saying right here in this bullshite apology.
a real apology says i hurt you, i feel terrible about it, i will do what you need me to do to fix it if that's possible, and i won't do it again.
It’s not just the racist mockery, but the fact that he believed (and may still do) it was “funny” qualified
as a joke tells you more about this guy (and those around him who laughed at his “joke”). Somebody like this shouldn’t be a school custodian, let alone a University chancellor. Purdue is a joke for continuing to support this guy.
The fact that Chancellor Keon was comfortable enough to make such an ignorant and insensitive remark at a public event makes one wonder what he says behind closed doors.
The thing is...this is something he did without thinking about it...which means he does this every day
People like this person do this all the time when he is around his family and friends
How the hell can someone be so out of touch with reality to think that they can say that in public, to a large crowd of people, and not suffer the consequences of their actions?
Q: "...and not suffer the consequences of their actions?" A: He's a white man.
This was not off the CUFF This was in his heart on his mind because it's in their Blood. This is who they're and they will never change. They will only say that they're Sorry. But they're not
It’s not just the chancellor as mentioned those professors behind him are laughing too. This is very telling about this institution.
The plan is to offer a few words of appeasement, pretend to be have a 'diverse' task force offer their input, and when things die down, to continue business as usual. A 'they'll get over it' approach. They will laugh it off in private.
these people think it will just go away if they apologize.
Everyone who laughed along to the racist 'joke' should be fired as well. In fact, anyone on the faculty who didn't vociferously object to the racism at the time should be fired.
Pretty much everyone else sitting on that stage laughed, not a single one showed any surprise, anger, or disapproval of what was said.
This is the new kind of racism, say racist comments and then others come along and gaslight and excuse the behavior. This normalizes the behavior and action.
This is one of the things that happens when a group allows others to prop them up as the model minority and stay out of the fight against prejudice for so long. I am so glad that more Asian people are starting to wake up and speak out against bigotry
