'Where is Nancy?': Assailant shouted before attacking Pelosi's husband, source says
Quote
The assailant who attacked Paul Pelosi was searching for Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, according to a source briefed on the attack. CNN's Jamie Gangel, Evan Perez and Manu Raju report. #CNN #News

National Socialists were socialists! National Socialists openly fought against rightists in the streets of Germany. You're setting yourselves up for failure in the face of rightism when you do not understand history accurately!

So today there was an assassination attempt on Nancy Pelosi, Democrat speaker of the US House. Make no mistake, there will be more and more events like these as the Republicans shift further towards the far-right. Their ranks will be filled with the likes of Greene and Boebert, who will keep encouraging domestic terrorism more and more openly.

This of course didn't come from nowhere. For the US, this is the ultimate chicken coming back to roost. And I doubt US democracy will survive it.

The primary reason I think is the unresolved history with the Confederacy, and the consequences thereof. The Confederacy, a traitorous breakaway slave state, is still openly celebrated by tens of millions. Some schools to this day still teach falsehoods about it, like the Lost Cause myth, where the evil North attacked the peaceful, noble, virtuous South for no good reason.
There are groups like the United Daughters of the Confederacy to this day, operating without any hindrance out in the open.

Can you imagine the same thing in Germany? If there was still a Nazi culture celebrated by millions. If certain schools taught that World War 2 as a war of Anglo-American agression, against peaceful Germany merely wanting its Lebensraum it deserved. If groups like "Sons of the Third Reich" were still a part of German culture. If people still flew the Nazi flag en-masse, calling it "tradition". Also if far-right parties held half the seats, and there was already a coup attempt on the Reichstag.

That's the situation America is in right now, teetering on the edge of Fascism. Should it pass the threshold, nothing short of a pro-Democracy military coup could save the country.

As things stand now, America looks more and more like a failed experiment. The haphazard system of conventions, gentlemens' agreements, regionalism and first past the post voting coupled with Capitalism run amok is too vulnerable and cumbersome against malicious actors like MAGA politicians. The latter can paralyze the entire political system by refusing to govern via obstructionism, thus help pre-empt any countermeasures against them.

Hopefully the non-MAGA political elite and the non-Republican majority will recognize the danger as cases of assassination attempts and domestic terrorism mount, though if Republicans gain power beforehand it might not matter in the end.

These are my first, not fully formed thoughts on the matter. Once I figure out my positions I'll be doing a video about this.

EDIT: the reason why the assassin got into the house is because only Nancy Pelosi gets security, her husband doesn't if he's alone at home. The security detail moves with Nancy Pelosi.

Rightism only has a chance to win when leftists fail to understand history correctly!
