Who Picked the UN Security Council? (Short Animated Documentary)
Quote
The UN Security Council has five permanent members who wield great influence over international affairs. But who picked them? Who decided who got a seat and who didn't?

African leaders call for permanent UN Security Council seat
Quote
African leaders say it is time for the continent to be given a greater role at the United Nations. When the UN was formed 75 years ago only four African countries were part of the organisation. Today all 54 African countries are among the 193 members states of which only Russia, the US, China, the United Kingdom and France are permanent members of the security council. That is the UN's highest decision making body. In their addresses to this year's general assembly - which was moved mostly online because of the coronavirus pandemic - the presidents of South Africa and Nigeria called for Africa to be given permanent seats on the security council.

How does one defeat evil by tolerating it? Would releasing rapists and murderers from prison liberate us all as well? Perhaps Ban-Ki-moon could do with a trip back to the drawing table on this quote?

This is the fundamental issue with people who do not possess a worldview based on dualism, they are incapable of doing what is required to vanquish evil from a space once and for all. Therefore, they will always allow evil back in the door to that space eventually, it is only a matter of time. I call it being "wishy-washy" or "spineless".

They include the Holocaust, mass killings in Rwanda, Srebrenica, and most recently, of the Rohingya. Now, on the International Day of Commemoration and Dignity of the Victims of the Crime of Genocide, the UN aims to ensure that these past atrocities are not forgotten or repeated. Shamim Chowdhury looks back at some of the genocides in the past century.

https://www.yahoo.com/news/biden-ditches-trump-apos-pro-005602590.html

Quote
The Biden administration abstained from a United Nations General Assembly resolution affirming Palestinian refugees' right to return to Israel, a move that Israel claims would destroy the country's identity as the ethnic-national homeland for the Jewish people. The Trump administration had voted against the resolution, and a group of Orthodox Jewish rabbis condemned the Biden administration for reversing this stance.
...
The committee approved six anti-Israel, pro-Palestinian draft resolutions that will come before the General Assembly for a full vote later this year. Three of those texts affirmed the work of the U.N. Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA), which serves 5.7 million Palestinian refugees in Syria, Lebanon, Jordan, Gaza, the West Bank and East Jerusalem. Each of those resolutions calls for the right of return for Palestinian refugees to sovereign Israel or for their right to receive compensation for the property they lost when they fled their homes.
...
The Trump administration had opposed UNRWA and cut U.S. funding for the organization. Both that administration and Israel have charged that textbooks used in UNRWA schools are anti-Semitic and incite violence against Israel.
...
The Biden administration has restored funding to UNRWA, providing the agency with more than $318 million in fiscal year 2021.

The Coalition for Jewish Values, an organization that represents 1,500 Orthodox Jewish rabbis, condemned the Biden administration's move.

They will slam Biden just for abstaining, so Biden might as well outright support the resolutions! But Biden is incapable of understanding this.

Quote
Yesterday the UN General Assembly adopted three one-sided resolutions targeting Israel, as part of a total of 14 resolutions being adopted over the next month that target the Jewish state
...
Yesterday’s resolution on Jerusalem refers to the Temple Mount, the holiest site in Judaism, solely by its Muslim name, “Haram al-Sharif.”

Of course, this all means nothing in practice without the will to nuke Israel. And if we don't:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Temple_Mount#Judaism

Quote
Jewish texts predict that the Mount will be the site of a Third and final Temple, which will be rebuilt with the coming of the Jewish Messiah. A number of vocal Jewish groups now advocate building the Third Holy Temple without delay in order to bring to pass God's "end-time prophetic plans for Israel and the entire world."[38]

The running joke that is the UN:

https://www.npr.org/2022/02/25/1083252456/russia-vetoes-un-security-council-resolution-that-denounces-its-invasion-of-ukra

Also, see immediately preceding post:

Quote
Russia accused the U.S. of provoking escalation in Ukraine, claiming it has no plans to attack.

So it attacks after itself claiming it has no plans to attack, and then is still allowed by everyone else to be the one to decide whether or not it was wrong to attack.

Why does anyone still go along with this charade?

I'm sure this Ukraine ambassador was asking himself the same thing during this meeting:

Ukrainian ambassador calls for a moment of silence at UN security council

Ukraine's UN ambassador, Sergiy Kyslytsya, addressed an emergency meeting of the UN security council on Friday 26 February in New York. During his address, Kyslytsya called for a moment of silence to pray for peace, and for the souls of those already killed after Russia invaded his country on 25 February.

Watch: Kenyan envoy to UN stuns the world; Gives history lesson to Russia at Ukraine meet
Quote
Kenya offered a lesson on borders to the world at the UN Security Council meet in New York convened on the request of Ukraine. Kenyan representative to the UN, Martin Kimani took a firm position against the breach of Ukraine’s territorial integrity. “Kenya, and almost every African country, was birthed by the ending of the empire. Our borders were not of our own drawing. They were drawn in the distant colonial metropoles of London, Paris and Lisbon with no regard for the ancient nations they cleaved apart,” said Kimani. Watch the full video for more.

Precisely, if the Russian speaking people of the Donetsk and Luhansk regions feel more Russian than Ukrainian then they should have moved to Russia. Russia happens to also have plenty of lebensraum, it's not like Russia is a nation smack-dab in the middle of Europe with potentially hostile nations on all of it's borders. Furthermore, it's not like Russians are being expelled out of European countries simply for being ethnic Russians, even as Russia invades Ukraine. Putin's claims of "Russophobia" are certainly hyper-inflated at best....

Historical reminder for contrast:

Several hundred Wolf children were discovered in Lithuania after the separation from Russia. Today almost 100 still live there.[15] From the beginning of the 1990s on, Wolf children have fought for their German citizenship. They have their own association. The Federal Office of Administration within the German Federal Ministry of the Interior long held that persons who left Königsberg territory after World War II had renounced their German citizenship.

From January 1, 2008, on, compensation is granted by Lithuanian law for those persons who suffered on account of World War II and the Soviet occupation. Consequently, Wolf children get a small additional pension. In German laws, the Wolf children are not mentioned. From private sponsors they get a small quarterly stipend, organized by Wolfgang Freiherr von Stetten.[16]

Today, some Wolf children aim to learn the fate of their relatives, obtain German citizenship, reunite with their families, leave the country for Germany, and remain faithful to German culture.[17]

Note that Wolf children do not attempt to turn Lithuania German....

Russia's UNSC Veto sparks outrage; Watch how member states lashed 'abuse of power'
Quote
Russia vetoed a U.N. Security Council resolution on Friday demanding that Moscow immediately stop its attack on Ukraine and withdraw all troops, a defeat the United States and its supporters knew was inevitable but said would highlight Russia’s global isolation. The vote was 11 in favor, with Russia voting no and China, India and the United Arab Emirates abstaining, which showed significant but not total opposition to Russian President Vladimir Putin’s invasion.
