They did not typically experience starvation in pre-colonial times! The correct comparison is between pre-colonial and colonial, not between colonial and post-colonial. Western colonial powers often set up problems that will emerge over time in colonies that they are about to withdraw from. Therefore comparing between colonial and post-colonial is unfair.
Current starvation in former Western colonies is the fault of the Western colonial powers for making the former colonies dependent on imports during the colonial era. Did you not read this post?
