Usually when leftists say: "X has a right to A", what they mean is: "X deserves A but I don't have to help X get it."
What we need are leftists saying instead: "I have a duty to help X get A."
The notion of "rights" amplifies:

This ensured that when the Western colonialists themselves then violated the non-Westerners' "rights" in plain sight, their victims' response was to merely
point out to the Western colonialists that their "rights" were being violated (as if this would prompt the Western colonialists to voluntarily stop doing so) instead of doing their duty of exterminating the Western colonialists ASAP.
