No other civilization could ever pollute water as badly as Western civilization has!

Latest story from Hong Kong, where the virus has been considered relatively well controlled compared to many other countries except for their counterpart Macau and mainland China:

After having maintained daily single-digit cases for several months with even some days of zero-case in between, the fourth wave with rising double-digit cases has now set in. It's been confirmed that this new spate all started in a dance hall where the spreader is an elderly woman who pays to learn ballroom dancing by young male instructors, and the first infected group, all from the same dance hall, consists mainly of women aged 60+ and men aged 29-35. During the incubation period, they have visited other dance halls bringing the virus along with them. And incidentally, some of the dance instructors from this group are known to be young white males from Russia!
It is also known that the several women first infected in the group are from the local high society, so maybe that has a lot more to tell.

"ballroom dancing"

This is a good point. Eurocentrism is (as usual) behind the worldwide popularity of ballroom dancing, and indeed of the entire mode of social interaction (especially among the wealthy) based around ballroom dancing. It goes without saying that ballroom dancing is definitively Western, originating in the Renaissance:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ballroom_dance

Quote
The first authoritative knowledge of the earliest ballroom dances was recorded toward the end of the 16th century, when Jehan Tabourot, under the pen name "Thoinot-Arbeau", published in 1588 his Orchésographie, a study of late 16th-century French renaissance social dance.

and certainly introduced to non-Western countries via colonialism. Therefore until people from non-Western countries stop practicing it, they are still colonized.

Quote
Kenya outlawed single-use plastic bags in 2017, but there are still no laws requiring corporations that profit from single-use plastic bottles to clean up what they produce.

Are space launches bad for the environment?
Quote
Space rockets may not be very environmentally friendly.
Quote
Space launches can have a hefty carbon footprint due to the burning of solid rocket fuels. Many rockets are, however, propelled by liquid hydrogen fuel, which produces ‘clean’ water vapour exhaust, although the production of hydrogen itself can cause significant carbon emissions. Rocket engines release trace gases into the upper atmosphere that contribute to ozone depletion, as well as particles of soot.

Rocket launches are nonetheless relatively infrequent, meaning that their overall impact on our climate remains much smaller than aviation’s. But it’s not just our immediate environment: ‘space junk’ is a growing concern as disused satellites and other objects accumulate in our planet’s orbit.

Quote
We utilized a technique that examines how old a person is at a cellular level compared with their chronological age. We found that some young people were older at a cellular level than would have been expected based on their chronological age. Racial discrimination accounted for much of this variation, suggesting that such experiences were accelerating ageing.

If it were not obvious before that racism demands retaliatory violence, does this make it obvious yet?

Plastic Wars (full film) | FRONTLINE
Quote
Have efforts to solve the plastic pollution problem made it worse? Go inside the battle over plastics, recycling and what’s at stake.

Despite efforts spreading across America to reduce the use of plastic and the crisis of ocean pollution growing, the plastics industry is rapidly scaling up new production and promoting a familiar solution: recycling. But it’s estimated that no more than 10% of plastic produced has ever been recycled. The documentary “Plastic Wars,” from FRONTLINE and NPR, reveals how plastic makers for decades have publicly promoted recycling, despite privately expressing doubts that widespread plastic recycling would ever be economically viable.

Quote
Huge islands of garbage floating on some rivers in the Balkans are causing an environmental emergency and threatening a regional hydropower plant.

Plastic bottles, rusty barrels and other waste could be seen clogging the Drina River near the eastern Bosnian town of Visegrad on Tuesday. Upstream, the Drina's tributaries in Montenegro, Serbia and Bosnia carried even more debris after swollen waterways spilled over into landfills.

The Balkan nations have poor waste management programs, and tons of garbage routinely end up in rivers, including the occasional washing machine or computer screen. A broken barrier this week caused a massive buildup of garbage on the Drina that has threatened Bosnia's Visegrad dam.

Officials say that between 6,000 and 8,000 cubic meters of waste are pulled out of the river each year near Visegrad. Although the problem is not new, Serbia, Bosnia and Montenegro have done little to address the problem even as they seek to join the European Union.

An environmental activist from the Eco Center group, Dejan Furtula, said the garbage in the Drina also is a hazard for the the local community because waste removed from the river is dumped on a local landfill, which is often on fire and produces toxic liquid that flows back into the Drina.

“We are all in danger here, the entire ecosystem,” he said.
...
At the Visegrad dam, efforts began Tuesday to clear away the clogging garbage and to avoid potential damage to the power system. In southwest Serbia, the Lim River has created a similar problem at the Potpecko accumulation lake.
