Etymologically, a "virtue" is a trait consequential to virility. Therefore it is accurate to claim that not going for looks is a virtue*, since the optimal evolutionary strategy for virile men (who produce comically large amounts of sperm) is to have sex with as many women as possible (thus necessarily including aesthetically sub-ideal women who are the vast majority) whereas it is unvirile men for whom the optimal evolutionary strategy is to reserve their (very limited) sperm for only the most aesthetically ideal women (who are a tiny minority).

(* This is why we never use the term "virtue" with a positive connotation.)

Going for looks is indeed not virtuous, it is idealistic. (Of course those who go for looks can still screw up by pursuing the wrong ideal, but that is a separate discussion. Speaking of which, I feel that this topic:

The reason why some Hindu nationalists have become "pro-Israel" is, like I mentioned before, anti-Zionism has been turned into an Islamist issue. But this isn't all: almost all the Islamic/OIC countries are invariably anti-India, criticizing its "violations" in Kashmir as well as supposed "anti-Muslim" policies. This has led to India feeling that it is "weak" and hence does not need to "appease" Muslim countries by supporting Palestine. Thus supporting Israel is seen as a rejection of "Gandhian" pacifism and not allowing "foreigners" to dictate their matters. In contrast, China, which is more powerful than India, does not illicit the same criticism from Muslim countries, although it is demolishing mosques and forcing Muslims to eat pork. Additionally, the fake "anti-colonialist" False Left in India, which supports Palestine but also calls India a "colonial entity" that is "occupying Kashmir", leads to some Hindu nationalists believing that Palestine is not an anti-colonialist issue. Again, in contrast, any criticism of alleged Uyghur genocide is rightly seen as a neoconservative/fringe Islamist cause, probably due to China's power.
