It's criminal how few well-made movies and books centered around pre-colonial American history there are. It's such a treasure trove of material, especially because so few have actually thought to make use of it. But of course, we need the millionth movie/show/book about vikings instead. In a world still holding onto the vestiges of Eurocentrism, somehow, making a movie about blonde hair, blue-eyed, 100% Nordic "Chad" warriors is "playing it safe" in the entertainment industry, and producing a movie or book about our actual native history is a huge gamble. And if we do get the mythical blockbuster movie or bestselling book centered around Native American history, it'll probably amount to making some sort of political statement. And that'll just end up feeding the current culture war instead of genuinely unifying Americans. Plus, I'm sure that some Native Americans are tired of their existence exclusively being brought up in the context of current day politics. Sometimes all you need to make a statement, is a really good movie or book that inspires people
