I disagree with this interpretation. Poor "whites" are going against their own self-interest, not against "white" self-interest. This is because the rich are overwhelmingly "white". So when poor "whites" prefer the rich keep more of their money, they are in effect preferring more money continuing to be under "white" control (albeit not their own) as opposed to going under "non-white" control. To the extent that money improves survivability, they are improving the likelikhood that the last survivors in the future bottleneck are "white". Thus this is normal "white" genetic survivalist behaviour.

For comparison, if in an alternate universe where the rich are overwhelmingly "non-white", do you still think poor "whites" would oppose social safety net policies?

Um, but let me say this, and this is a point that I don't see many people making, but I think it's true. Um, I honestly believe a lot of what's driving this is flatout bigotry.
