To be fair, tattooing is not exclusively of Western origin. Unless you mean that Western tattoo designs more strongly emphasize space-filling than non-Western tattoo designs? If so, please provide pictorial examples. You may well be correct(?), as many Western tattoo designs certainly adapt elements developed by Western calligraphy, and we have already looked at how overcomplicated that is:
